What Do You Want?

We are all a bundle of desires. We want a new car, to go on vacation, to get some rest, to find the perfect mate. There are countless things that each of us desires. Next time you find yourself wanting something, ask yourself how having it will make you feel? Figure out what is the real desire behind the want. For example, if you really want to go on a tropical vacation to Hawaii, you may discover that the desire underneath it is to relax and renew and to get away from it all for a little while. If taking that vacation is not possible at the moment, ask yourself if there are any other ways that you can achieve the desire behind the want for a vacation. Could you take just 5 or 10 minutes out of your day right now, find a quiet place to sit our lie down, close your eyes and imagine yourself walking in the sun, feeling the warmth of the sand on your feet, smelling the spray of the ocean? Can you take a few minutes for yourself to let go of everything that is happening right now, and allow yourself to relax, renew and get away from it all, even just for those 5 or 10 minutes?

You will be amazed how discovering your wants underneath your wants and then meeting them for yourself in whatever way is actually possible for you right now, can change your perspective, brighten your mood and uplift you. And since your mind doesn’t know the difference between an actual experience and an imagined one, doing this for yourself will bring you one step closer to that vacation that you’ve been wanting.

Try this for anything and everything you desire. Become clear about what the actual feeling is that you want (versus the thing or the experience), create that feeling within yourself while imagining having the thing or experience and meet the want underneath the want for yourself. You can do this pretty much anytime and anywhere.
